Who Cares About an UltraWide Monitor Anyway?
Moms, dads, adults, teens, and kids: if you’re reading this review right now, trust me – you’ve got a reason to care about what monitor you’re using. I’m writing this LG EA93 UltraWide IPS Panel Monitor review not only because they were nice enough to send it to me when you could still practically only find it overseas, but also because it’s huge, high-tech, and makes EVERYONE’S life better.
And when I say it makes everyone’s life better, I mean literally that the LG UltraWide IPS monitor will actually improve your quality of life no matter what you use a computer for. Let me explain.
Work at Home Moms with Babies
Parents can multi-task in ways never before thought possible with a panoramic monitor with these capabilities. For example, with each of my 3 babies, I had to work while holding a crying fussy little person in front of my computer most days!
The 21:9 aspect ratio on LG’s new UltraWide monitor is so wide that you can split your screen in half and still have another half that is the size of a regular monitor. Review: LG EA93 UltraWide IPS Panel Monitor
Yesterday you might have read my LG EA93 UltraWide IPS Panel Monitor first impressions and unboxing post. I’ve been working with the extremely large computer monitor over the past month and I have quite a lot to say about it, ranging from amazing features to technical specs that some people might not even know exist yet.
So, without further ado, let’s just get to it!
Tech Specs & Glossary: LG EA93 UltraWide IPS Monitor
The LG 29EA93 has a long list of technical specifications (tech specs) and features that you might not have heard of before.
In Plane Switching. The hugest feature readers have been asking me about lately is super IPS. What is IPS? Are IPS monitors worth the money? In Plane Switching is truly unlike anything you’ve ever seen before (unless, of course, you’ve seen an IPS monitor).
{Definition} IPS (In Plane Switching):
In Plane Switching technology is a way monitors can move and change molecules in the liquid crystal layer in a parallel plane to the glass plates.
IPS makes the screen’s amazing high definition look so lifelike from front, side, above, below, and almost any angle. The response is fast which means streaming video looks unbelievably real. The blurring and distorting of images you’ve gotten used to are a thing of the past with IPS.
LED Backlighting. The color and detail from the LED backlit LCD display are unlike any other. The LED’s poignant details are a digital dream second only to seeing something in real life.
IPS combined with the LED backlit liquid crystal display is a marriage made in digital heaven.
Cinema Screen. The LG UltraWide monitor’s cinema screen is a narrow bezel which you can feel with your fingers around the edge of the monitor but you won’t notice when you’re looking at it and especially watching movies.
That’s why it’s call Cinema Screen, because it’s like watching on a movie theater big screen – you never notice the edge and aren’t distracted while viewing.
4-Screen Split. The Screen Splitter software allows up to a 4 way screen split configurable in almost any shape/size you need. A simple drop-down menu shows the many ways you can place your windows.
Dual Linkup. You can connect up to 2 devices at a time using the ports on the back of the monitor. Choose any of your favorite devices such as laptop, Blu-ray player, video camera, smart phone, etc.
Make sure that one device is connected to the display port and the other using Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). You might have to get creative with your cables depending on what you want to hook up to the monitor at the same time.
{Definition} MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link):
A mobile audio/video interface used for connecting mobile devices and other electronics to HD televisions.
UltraWide 21:9 Aspect Ratio. The screen measures 12.25” high x 27” wide, for a 29” diag. measurement. Basically, if you have a normal size monitor now, it’s like putting 2 of your monitor together side by side!
- 5M:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio. Dark colors will pop in ways that have previously been unnoticeable in your favorite movies.
- Full HD 1080P. The resolution is 2560×1080.

Some Assembly Required
Assembling the monitor is easy. It will take you less than 2 minutes!
1. Get the stand out of the plastic wrap.
2. Locate the small bag containing 2 screws.
3. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to attach the base to the monitor with the 2 screws. Tighten well!

My Recommendations: LG EA93 UltraWide IPS Monitor
This is the model I tested: the LG 29EA93 29” class (28.7” diag.) UltraWide IPS Panel Backlit LED Monitor.
Beauty: This monitor is beautiful and contemporary from every angle. Its white back and black front compliment any office décor and the stand’s styling is both high-tech looking and sophisticated at the same time.
Color and clarity: The color and surprising detail on this monitor will really make you question how you looked at anything else. I compared the same picture on my laptop and the LG UltraWide. It was like looking at 2 completely different paintings.
Versatility for work and play: I like the ability to work and play at the same time. Since normally I have a second computer playing movies next to my main laptop while I’m working, the extra wide monitor is a huge benefit for me. I can now have my movie and my work windows on the same monitor side by side!
Recommendation: My recommendation is to buy this monitor for your main computer as soon as you can if you multitask on a daily basis. The amount of time it will save you is substantial by having everything available on-screen at the same time. The price is higher than most monitors now, but that’s also because it is a high-end monitor with top of the line features.
I’m quite happy with the LG EA93 and I don’t usually get butterflies in my stomach over computer monitors! When you see the screen, you’ll understand what I mean!
